OUT

I read an article today about people quitting blogging and although nothing in it was new to me it resonated with its unavoidable truths. There's a real imbalance if you think of this whole enterprise in an effort to benefit ratio kind of scenario. There were some interesting things that happened in the first year of this blog. I met a few people. I probably even got an opportunity or two. But, nothing since the beginning.

For someone like me who just isn't interested in sharing more personal details of my life and bombarding readers with photo documentation I can't expect much of a following. I came to terms with that a long time ago. That's also when the blog slipped and never really returned. I put much less into it because I knew that it wasn't going to be seen anyway. Catch-22? Probably not. There's just no source of traffic. I'm not associated with any company or large publication. There's no nudity. I hate whoring around the internet commenting and trying to drum up followers.

I can't justify putting fiction up here like I once did both because nobody likes to interact with that (in my case) and because it's throwing away or at least devaluing work that could be put together more formally and thoughtfully. So, I can advertise my photo projects a little bit (which has been of zero help I'm here to tell you), not post fiction and not say much about my real life, and perhaps provide some tongue-in-cheek commentary now and then about some topic that piqued my interest that day. That's no better than a personal scrap-book.

I've kept this alive for a long time because of a strange emotional attachment that stretches back to what was going on when I started it and what it did for me. But, it's only been a drain since those days. I'm not deleting anything. And I'll leave this sitting here for the time being. But, if you're interested you can find me elsewhere in the universe.

  2. Refreshing--you can write your ass off. Got into some of your "best of." Just signed up for this site today and I've been clicking "next blog" for an hour--this is an enjoyable bright spot in what has thus far been a cesspool.

  4. I definitely know where you're coming from. My blog had one follower until I started advertising on facebook - I think the count jumped to three noncommitted readers. The personal scrapbook observation is completely spot-on.
