It's time for Friday "Let's be honest". I have a general sense that I've been pushing along and making a bit of progress lately but I'm going to stop myself right there and say "let's be honest" because there's no denying the levels of better than I'm not reaching.
Even though I finished editing a job that involved colour correcting and light adjustment on 700ish photos in the space of about 4 hours, and was a little more disciplined with my strategic routine of early rising, writing and walking to work, and even though I cooked at home most days this week and worked on some commercial-style photo editing techniques I could have done more. It's nice to lay out all the things you've done and pat yourself on the back. That's a given. But, all this just ends up with my treading water and needing a walker before I finish some work I am proud of.
So, I offer up the following recent details that did not contribute anything and perhaps even took away momentum from my cause. I dusted off GTA San Andreas and rolled through the L.A. Streets, cheatcodes in hand, for most of Tuesday evening. I got up early on Monday to write and had a coffee and sat at my desk for a full hour going through my twitter and tumblr feeds and generally just clicking away on links and buttons until I had to leave to go to work. Instead of reading on my lunch break this week I have done the following instead: met my girlfriend to eat a sandwich and look at potential couch upholstery, played an online monster truck flash game for 40 minutes, wandered around aimlessly unable to decide what to eat for lunch, and spent an hour browsing craigslist for apartments that are not available for me to move into yet.
Lots of time wasting. And this was a GOOD week! Next week I hope I have less to be honest about. Or at least something more worthy of keeping me away from good work!
Happy Honest Friday!
